- Less is More. Don't write a novel on each slide.
- Outline. Make your basic points in the slides and elaborate in your speaking.
- Don't just read your slides to your audience. They could have just picked up a pamphlet and read it themselves--they are watching the presentation for a reason!
- Don't make your audience choose between reading your slide or listening to you. Your slide should complement your speaking and follow the same train of thought.
- Limit the bells and whistles. Just because PowerPoint has a million ways to transition between slides or make text spin, bounce, or blink into existance doesn't mean you need to use all of them. A consistant theme is better than a series of jarring and meaningless distractions.
- Spelling and grammar count. People can't hear typos when you speak words aloud, but you can lose credibility if your slides are full of errors.
